വിഷു

കേരളത്തിലെ കാര്‍ഷികോത്സവമാണ്‌ വിഷു.മലയാളമാസം മേടം ഒന്നിനാണ്‌ വിഷു ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്‌. അടുത്ത ഒരു കൊല്ലത്തെ വര്‍ഷഫലത്തെ കുറിച്ചും ഇക്കാലയളവില്‍ ജനങ്ങള്‍ ചിന്തിക്കുന്നു. വിഷുഫലം എന്നാണ്‌ ഇതിനു പറയുക. കേരളത്തില്‍ മാത്രമല്ല അയല്‍ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളില്‍ അതിര്‍ത്തിയോട് ചേര്‍ന്നു കിടക്കുന്ന പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും വിഷു ആഘോഷിക്കാറുണ്ട്. ഭാരതത്തിലെ മിക്ക സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലും സമാനമായ ആഘോഷങ്ങള്‍ ഉണ്ട്. എല്ലായിടത്തും ഭാരതത്തില്‍ മുന്‍പ് നിലവിലിരുന്ന പഞ്ചാംഗം പ്രകാരമുള്ള വര്‍ഷാരംഭമാണ്‌ ഈ ദിനം.

'പൊലിക പൊലിക ദൈവമേ തന്‍ നെല്‍ പൊലിക' എന്നും മറ്റുമുള്ള പുള്ളുവപ്പാട്ടും വിഷുവിന്റെ ഐശ്വര്യദായക സ്വഭാവത്തെയാണ്‌ കാണിക്കുന്നത്‌. വിഷുവിനു ചെയ്യുന്ന കാര്യങ്ങളുടെ ഫലങ്ങള്‍ അടുത്ത ഒരു കൊല്ലക്കാലം നിലനില്‍ക്കുന്നു എന്നാണ്‌ വിശ്വാസം.

പേരിനു പിന്നില്‍ :

വിഷു എന്നാല്‍ തുല്യമായത് എന്നര്‍ത്ഥം. അതായത് രാത്രിയും പകലും തുല്യമായ ദിവസം. മേട വിഷുവും തുലാ വിഷുവും ഉണ്ട്. സംക്രാന്തികളിലെ പ്രധാനമായത് മഹാവിഷു എന്നും പറയുന്നു. ഈ വിശേഷ ദിവസങ്ങള്‍ പണ്ടു മുതലേ ആഘോഷിച്ചു വന്നിരുന്നിരിക്കണം. സംഘകാലത്ത് ഇതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് പരാമര്‍ശങ്ങള്‍ പതിറ്റുപത്ത് എന്ന് കൃതിയില്‍ ഉണ്ട്. എന്നാല്‍ വര്‍ഷാരംഭമായി കേരളത്തില്‍ ആചരിക്കുന്നത് ഒരു പക്ഷേ കൊല്ലവര്‍ഷാരംഭത്തോടെ ആയിരിക്കണം. ക്രി.വ. 825 ഇല്‍ പകലിന്റേയും രാത്രിയുടേയും ദൈര്‍ഘ്യം ഒന്നായ ദിവസം ഏപ്രില്‍ 15 നായിരുന്നു. അന്നാണ്‌ പുതുവര്‍ഷമായി പുതിയ കൊല്ലവര്‍ഷത്തില്‍ (പഞ്ചാംഗം) രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയത്. അതായത് സൂര്യന്‍ മേഷാദിയില്‍ വരുന്ന ദിവസം . എന്നാല്‍ ഇന്ന് യഥാര്‍ത്ഥത്തില്‍ വിഷുവങ്ങള്‍ പ്രധാനിയായ മഹാവിഷു ഇന്ന് 16 ദിവസത്തോളം പിന്നിലാണ്‌. ഭൂമിയുടെ ചരിവാണ്‌ ഇതിന്‌ കാരണം. പണ്ട്‌ മേഷാദി മേടത്തില്‍ ആയിരുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ വിഷുവങ്ങളുടെ പുരസ്സരണം കാരണം മേഷാദി ഇപ്പോള്‍ മീനം രാശിയില്‍ ആണ്‌. എന്നിട്ടും നമ്മള്‍ വിഷു ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്‌ മേടത്തില്‍ ആണ്. ഇതേ പോലെ തുലാദി ഇപ്പോള്‍ കന്നി രാശിയില്‍ ആണ്‌.

ആചാരങ്ങള്‍:

കേരളത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന വിളവെടുപ്പുത്സവങ്ങളാണ്‌ വിഷുവും ഓണവും. ഓണം വിരിപ്പുകൃഷിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടാണെങ്കില്‍ വിഷു വേനല്‍ പച്ചക്കറി വിളകളുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടാണ്‌ ആചരിക്കുന്നത്. വിഷുവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ആചാരങ്ങള്‍ വ്യത്യസ്തമാണ്‌ . വിഷുക്കണി ആണ്‌ ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ടത്‌. കുടുംബത്തിലെ മുതിര്‍ന്ന സ്ത്രീകള്‍ക്കാണ്‌ വിഷുക്കണി ഒരുക്കുവാനും അത്‌ കാണിക്കുവാനുമുള്ള ചുമതല. തേച്ചൊരുക്കിയ ഓട്ടുരുളിയില്‍ അരിയും നെല്ലും ഉപയോഗിച്ച്‌ പാതി നിറച്ച്‌, കൂടെ അലക്കിയ മുണ്ടും, പൊന്നും, വാല്‍ക്കണ്ണാടിയും, കണിവെള്ളരിയും, കണിക്കൊന്നയും, കത്തിച്ച നിലവിളക്കും, നാളികേരപാതിയും, ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണന്റെ വിഗ്രഹവും വെച്ചാണ്‌ വിഷുക്കണി ഒരുക്കുക. കണിക്കൊന്ന പൂക്കള്‍ വിഷുക്കണിയില്‍ നിര്‍ബന്ധമാണ്‌. ഐശ്വര്യസമ്പൂര്‍ണ്ണമായ അതായത്‌ പ്രകാശവും, ധനവും, ഫലങ്ങളും, ധാന്യങ്ങളും എല്ലാം ചേര്‍ന്ന വിഷുക്കണി കണ്ടുണരുമ്പോള്‍, പുതിയൊരു ജീവിതചംക്രമണത്തിലേക്കുള്ള വികാസമാണത്രെ സംഭവിക്കുക.

ചിലയിടങ്ങളില്‍ കുറിക്കൂട്ടും, ഗ്രന്ഥവും, വെള്ളിപ്പണം, ചക്ക, മാങ്ങ മുതലായവയും കണിക്ക് വെയ്ക്കാറുണ്ട്‌. കത്തിച്ച ചന്ദനത്തിരിയും, വെള്ളം നിറച്ച ഓട്ടുകിണ്ടിയും,പുതിയ കസവുമുണ്ടും അടുത്തുണ്ടാവണം എന്നാണ്‌ പറയുന്നത്‌. ഉറക്കത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് വിളിച്ചുണര്‍ത്തി പുറകില്‍ നിന്നും കണ്ണുപൊത്തി കൊണ്ടുപോയാണ്‌ കണികാണിക്കുന്നത്‌. കുടുംബാംഗങ്ങള്‍ എല്ലാവരും കണികണ്ടാല്‍ പിന്നെ വീടിന്റെ കിഴക്കുവശത്ത്‌ കണികൊണ്ടുചെന്ന് പ്രകൃതിയെ കണികാണിക്കണം, അതിനു ശേഷം ഫലവൃക്ഷങ്ങളേയും, വീട്ടുമൃഗങ്ങളേയും കണികാണിക്കുന്നു.

കുടുംബത്തിലെ കാരണവര്‍ കണികണ്ടവര്‍ക്കെല്ലാം കൈനീട്ടം നല്‍കുന്നു. മുന്‍പൊക്കെ പൊന്‍നാണയമായിരുന്നെങ്കില്‍ ഇന്ന് അത്‌ പണമായി മാറിയിട്ടുണ്ട്‌.

രാവിലെ പ്രാതലിന് ചിലയിടങ്ങളില്‍ വിഷുക്കട്ട എന്ന വിഭവവും കാണാറുണ്ട്‌.നാളികേരപ്പാലില്‍ പുന്നെല്ലിന്റെ അരി വറ്റിച്ചാണ്‌ വിഷുക്കട്ട ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്നത്‌. വിഷുക്കട്ടക്ക് മധുരമോ ഉപ്പോ ഉണ്ടാവാറില്ല. തൃശ്ശൂരിലെ വിഷുവിന് വിഷുക്കട്ട നിര്‍ബന്ധമാണ്. ഉച്ചക്ക്‌ വിഭവസമൃദ്ധമായ സദ്യ. സദ്യയില്‍ മാമ്പഴപ്പുളിശ്ശേരി നിര്‍ബന്ധം. ചക്ക എരിശ്ശേരിയോ , ചക്കപ്രഥമനോ കാണണം. ഓണസദ്യയില്‍ നിന്ന് വിഷുസദ്യക്കുള്ള വ്യത്യാസവും ഇതു തന്നെ. തൊടികളില്‍ ചക്കയും മാങ്ങയും നിറഞ്ഞു നില്‍ക്കുന്ന കാലമായതുകൊണ്ടാവാമിത്‌.

തലേനാള്‍ സംക്രാന്തിയാണ്. അന്ന് വൈകീട്ട് വീട്ടിലെ ഉപയോഗശൂന്യമായ വസ്തുക്കള്‍ കത്തിച്ചുകളയുന്നു. വീട് ശുദ്ധിയാക്കുകയും പുതിയ വര്‍ഷത്തെ വരവേല്‍ക്കുയും ആണ് ഇതിന്റെ ഉദ്ദേശം. അതോടെ വീടുകളില്‍ പടക്കം പൊട്ടിച്ചു തുടങ്ങുകയായി. ഓലപ്പടക്കം, മാലപ്പടക്കം, കമ്പിത്തിരി, പൂത്തിരി, മേശപ്പൂത്തിരി, മത്താപ്പ് തുടങ്ങിയ നിറപ്പകിട്ടാര്‍ന്നതുമായ വിഷുപ്പടക്കങ്ങള്‍ കത്തിക്കുന്നത് കേരളത്തില്‍ പതിവാണ്. ഇത് വിഷുനാളിലും കാലത്ത് കണികണ്ടശേഷവും വൈകീട്ടും തുടരുന്നു.

കണിക്കൊന്ന:

വിഷുവുമായി ബന്ധമുള്ള ഒന്നാണ്‌ കണിക്കൊന്ന (ഇന്ത്യന്‍ ലബര്‍ണം). കൊന്നപ്പൂ വിഷുക്കാലത്ത് കേരളത്തിലെങ്ങും പൂത്തു നില്‍കുന്നത് നയനാന്ദകരമായ കാഴ്ചയൊരുക്കുന്നു. കര്‍ണ്ണികാരം എന്നും അറിയുന്ന കണികൊന്നകളില്‍ വിരിയുന്ന മഞ്ഞപ്പൂക്കളാണ്‌ കേരളത്തിന്റെ ദേശീയ പുഷ്പവും. അതിര്‍ത്തി പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലും ഈ മരം കാണപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്. വിഷുവിനായി നാട്‌ ഒരുങ്ങുമ്പോഴേ കൊന്നകളും പൂത്തു തുടങ്ങും. വേനലില്‍ സ്വര്‍ണ്ണത്തിന്റെ നിധി ശേഖരം തരുന്ന വൃക്ഷം എന്നാണ്‌ കൊന്നകളെപറ്റി പുരാണങ്ങളില്‍ പറയുന്നത്‌. മറ്റൊരു ഉപകാരവുമില്ലാത്ത ഈ മരം വിഷുക്കാലത്ത് പൂത്തിരുന്നതിനാലാവാം ഈ പൂവും വിഷുച്ചടങ്ങുകളുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെടുന്നത് എന്ന് ചില ചരിത്രകാരന്മാര്‍ കരുതുന്നു.

Sagar Alias Jacky returns

The most eagerly awaited summer release in Malayalam is ready to hit the theatres this week. Yes, we are talking about Mohanlal's Sagar alias Jacky.

It was 22 years ago that director K Madhu and scenarist S N Swami created the whopping hit, Irupatham Noottandu. Mohanlal played a don by the name Sagar Alias Jacky.

The film was a rage of sorts and its background score is hugely popular as cell phone ringtones even now. Suresh Gopi played the friend-turned foe, who gets killed in the end by Jacky.

  Now, two decades later, the character gets a new lease of life with director Amal Neerad's Sagar Alias Jacky-reloaded, easily the most eagerly awaited project during recent times.

Veteran writer S N Swami has scripted the new version as well. He is also well known for quite a number of action films including the fascinating CBI Diary kurippu series. The film has been shot in a number of locations in Kerala, Goa and Dubai.

 Sagar Alias Jacky is not a sequel to Irupatham Noottandu. Here the character will be seen in a new story and in a new environment. The don, now based abroad, comes to Kerala to prove a point.

And with revenge in his eyes and love in his heart, he does in style.

 Amal Neerad made his entry into films as a cinematographer in Ram Gopal Varma productions like James and Shiva. He has wielded the camera for Ranjith's Black as well.

He turned director with the Mammootty starrer, Big B. In Sagar Alias Jacky, he is credited as the director as well as cinematographer.

Sagar Alias Jacky is produced by Ashirwad and has some surprises in store. One of them is Mohanlal's son Pranav, in a brief role.

Telugu star Suman will be seen in an important role in the film. Sobhana, who has played Mohanlal's heroine in quite a number of films, makes her comeback with the hero, a few years after Mambazhakkalam.

 Bhavana plays the role of a TV reporter, Arathi Menon. She has earlier played Mohanlal's heroine in Naran and Chotta Mumbai.

Interestingly, the heroine in Irupatham Noottandu, Aswathy played by Ambika, was also a journo!

Jagathy Sreekumar is one character who has been picked from the earlier version to continue in his role in Sagar Alias Jacky. Remember his 'Hotel Chanakya' and the idiotic comments in Irupatham Noottandu? Now he is Sagar's confidante.

Gopi Sundar has scored the music. So, get ready to be mesmerised by the thrilling antics of the lovable don!

ഇതു പരിക്ഷക്കാലം. അത് കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ വേനലവധി ആയി. അപ്പോള്‍ പിന്നെ കുളിര്‍മയുടെ ഒരു വേനല്‍ക്കാലമാണ്. ഡിസംബറിലെ തണുപ്പിന്റെ മേന്മ എന്തുകൊണ്ടോ മിഡ് ടെര്മ് പരിക്ഷകളുടെ പാച്ചിലില്‍ വിസ്മരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. അതിനാല്‍ വേനലിനെ ശരിക്കും ഒന്നു എതിരെല്ക്ക തന്നെ വേണം.

ISRO finds ‘alien’ life in upper atmosphere

Bangalore: Indian scientists have discovered three new species of bacteria in the upper atmosphere. The bacteria, highly resistant to ultra-violet radiation, are not found elsewhere on Earth, leading to speculation on whether they are extra-terrestrial in origin. The Indian Space Research Organisation announced on Monday that the bacteria had been found in the upper stratosphere. "All the three newly identified species had significantly higher UV resistance compared to their nearest phylogenetic neighbours. One of the three, identified as a member of the genus Janibacter, has been named Janibacter hoylei, the second Bacillus isronensis, and the third Bacillus aryabhata," ISRO said in a release. "While the present study does not conclusively establish the extra-terrestrial origin of micro-organisms, it does provide positive encouragement to continue the work in our quest to explore the origin of life," it said, adding: "The precautionary measures and controls operating in this experiment inspire confidence that these species were picked up in the stratosphere." Janibacter hoylei is named after the distinguished Astrophysicist Fred Hoyle, Bacillus isronensis in recognition of ISRO's contribution in the balloon experiments, which led to its discovery and Bacillus aryabhata after India's celebrated ancient astronomer Aryabhata. India's first satellite was also named after Aryabhata. The release said the experiment was conducted using a 26.7 million cubic feet balloon carrying a 459 kg scientific payload soaked in 38 kg of liquid neon. The balloon was flown from the National Balloon Facility in Hyderabad, operated by the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). The release did not give the date when the balloon was flown. "The payload consisted of a cryosampler containing 16 evacuated and sterilised stainless steel probes. Throughout the flight, the probes remained immersed in liquid neon to create a cryopump effect. These cylinders, after collecting air samples from different heights ranging from 20 km to 41 km, were parachuted down and safely retrieved. "These samples were analysed by scientists at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad as well as the National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune for independent examination, ensuring that both laboratories followed similar protocols to achieve homogeneity of procedure and interpretation," it said. The experiment detected 12 bacterial and six fungal colonies, nine of which showed greater than 98 percent similarity with known species on Earth. "Three bacterial colonies were, however, totally new species," the release said. Jayant Narlikar from the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune was the principal investigator and scientists U R Rao from ISRO and P M Bhargava from Anveshna supported as mentors of the experiment, the release said. "This was the second such experiment conducted by ISRO, the first one being in 2001. Even though the first experiment had yielded positive results, it was decided to repeat the experiment by exercising extra care to ensure that it was totally free from any terrestrial contamination," ISRO said
